I told a friend of mine and my mechanic(he doesn't piece of work on diesel's) that I was going to buy a Jetta TDI. They both said that the diesel's last longer simply that the Turbo's go. They both said that that'due south the weak link in the engine. How long volition the turbo last for? Besides, when it does go, how much does it cost to replace?

Tahnk y'all for your answer. How expensive are we talking. How come up everyone that I talk to says that the turbo's on cars fry much quicker than the engine????Is the diesel fuel on a Gas machine dissimilar than a diesel?

The turbos on our TDI engine are subject to much lower frazzle temperatures than gas turbos and, if common sense is used, they should concluding a long fourth dimension.

Don't worry Damien-- there are plenty of VW, Mercedes and Peugeot turbo diesel rolling around with 300k on the odometers and running their orignal turbos. Just use the right oil and have auto of it and it'll exist fine. The depression temperature and low revs of diesel engine are pretty gentle on a turbo compared to a high revving rice-called-for screamer gas motor. Information technology's a completely different league all together.

There's a guy who gets his early-nineties Jetta turbodiesel serviced at the local dealer here, who had over 900,000 km on it and the machine was nevertheless going. Original turbo, original injection pump.
